Do you have a special project?
The first step is to spend time knowing, enjoying and understanding the artistic interest and style of the artist. Perhaps, you will be interested in buying a painting that is already completed. But if you like the style and have a personal request you would like to commission, continue on with this project.
You need to identify the art work that you prefer and explain the reasons. You have to have an idea of what you want to order. It does not mean that you have to figure out the composition and the technique itself; no need to micro-manage. It means that you should be able to communicate with the artist the kind of painting you would like to purchase.
A good dialogue is crucial to a successful outcome since artists are not mind readers. By the way, is this painting for you or for someone else? Is it for your home or your office? Are you thinking of a specific space? Is there a timeline or important dates that we need to discuss? The size of the artwork, the material, as well as your budget will also be important to talk about.
Once we have a good understanding of the project ahead, the artist will choose a photograph to work from. You probably have photos you want us to use! As the artwork progresses, you might want to see the painting “in progress”. But I have to say that most people like to wait for the painting to be done.
Finally, it will be time to deliver. And about delivery, you need to know that oil paint dries slowly. It will generally take a few weeks before it’s completely dry and ready to be varnished.
The artist will posses first ownership of the work he created. Reproducing or using some artistic content will not be allowed unless previous agreement has been made.
